Vietnam Veteran Gets Electric Scooter

“Vietnam Veteran and St Nazianz resident John Koenig recently received an electric scooter donated by the Fox Valley Veterans Council, Inc., and coordinated through American Legion Post 477—St Nazianz, WI.

The scooter will assist John with mobility and help him become more self-reliant. John served in the USMC from 1968 to 1972 as a Combat Engineer.

The scooter was presented by Nancy Rivera, Vice President of the Fox Valley Veterans Council, and Dean Koenig, Past Commander of Post 477.

But, that's not all! John was also selected to fly on Old Glory Honor Flight Mission 66 on 17 April 2024. We'd say he's having a pretty good month!

Congratulations and have a great day on your honor flight” (Nancy Rivera, American Legion Post 477, 2024).

Thank you to our board member and fellow veteran Al Verkuylen for securing this donation and coordinating with our Vice President, Nancy Rivera (Also a fellow veteran) to make this scooter donation possible. There were a lot of details and planning on this, and you made it happen!

We are incredibly humbled to hear of such selfless service and dedication in our community. It shows what can happen when teamwork and collaboration meet! To make it even better, John attended the most recent Old Glory Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Thank you for your service, John. We hope you enjoy your scooter and the beautiful outdoors this summer.

There are local veteran families in need. Can you help?

This year, we've seen a surge in calls, emails, applications, and the need for financial assistance. We have already financially assisted and or connected over 400 local veteran families to additional resources and opportunities! With all of December still left.

This assistance is critical, and the impact is often invisible to our community. Yet, it prevents homelessness, reduces hopelessness, increases well-being, and has a generational impact on veterans, their families, and our community. This assistance helps provide timely HOPE.

Veterans Day Tribute | "Chevron to Heart"

“Chevron to Heart”

Fox Valley Veterans Council Veteran's Day Tribute.

November 2, 2023 Media Announcement,

The Fox Valley Veterans Council (FVVC) is holding their Veterans Day Tribute inside of the Outagamie County Court House in front of the Veterans Memorial at 410 S. Walnut Street at 11:00AM on Saturday, November 11th at 11am.

The theme is “Chevron to Heart” and the event will focus on the meaning of the Wound Chevron and the Purple Heart. A special presentation of the Purple Heart will be made to the family of George C. Arts who served in WWI, was severely wounded, came home to make a life but eventually succumbed to his injuries and died at the young age of 35. George C. Arts never received the Purple Heart. Through the efforts of the Fox Valley Veterans Council and Congressman Gallagher’s offices the family will be presented the decoration. Maj Eric VanHout, Battalion Officer with the 2-127th Infantry, Appleton Army National Guard, will join in the award. It is noted that WWI Vet George Arts hails from the Red Arrow, 32nd Division which the 2-127th hails from as well.

Highlights of George’s service, music from Joseph Scala and also from the Fox Valleyaires, and a poem read by Roy Rogers, a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, will be part of this event. The Patriot Guard, Scarlet Guard, and American Legion Post 38 will provide honoring elements. On behalf of FVVC President Timothy J. Cody and all of our Veterans Service Organizations we are asking for our Local Media to let us know you will help us share this event with the community and send a reply indicating your ability to do so to treasurer@foxvalleyveterans.org or phone 920-757-6142 with a message.

Appreciate your help in sharing our Veterans Day Event.

Sincerely, //signed// Kim Craddock,
